With devices that slide, swivel and flip, Windows 8 PCs arrive on our doorsteps in just a few weeks if you order early
I’ve been on pins and needles for the last several months waiting to see what Microsoft’s partners will deliver with Windows 8, and sneak peeks have been trickling in over the last month or so.
Officially available on October 26th, Microsoft and its hardware partners announced today that pre orders for long-awaited Windows 8 PCs start today. Amazon, Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples and other online retailers are making it easy to order with dedicated landing pages, featuring a variety Windows 8 PCs from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Sony.
A few retailers are offering additional special deals. Best Buy will give you free shipping and deliver your PC on October 26 if you pre-order before Wednesday, October 24. And Staples will deliver your new device between October 26 and October 31 if you pre-order by October 25th, though it isn’t promising free shipping or guaranteed delivery on October 26th. Instead, anyone who orders a Windows 8 PC from Staples priced at $699 and above will receive free data transfer service from their old computer.
Windows 8 PC’s aren’t enough? You’re in luck! Microsoft has even more in store for you in the next few weeks with a fresh crop of Windows Phone 8 devices headed our way in just a few weeks from HTC, Nokia, Samsung and others.
Getting connected will be easier than ever with a new crop of portable devices in all shapes and sizes just in time for the holidays. Hardware makers promise to change the way we think about interacting with our computing devices—be it traditional PCs, new tablets or phones.
I’m drooling over the Sony VAIO Tap 20. Which Windows-based device is your favorite?
